They are connected by magnet. When the subject is going to be captured, he could give photographer the LENS, and keep the SCREEN. After capturing, the photographer can not see what he took, because the image has been sent to SCREEN through wireless USB. That means nobody can see the image before the subject makes a decision among keeping it, printing it out or deleting it.

The five different oils belong to five different groups based on the type of smells they have. The inspiration comes from the fragrance industry where perfumes have been put into five main cathegories: woody, aromatic, oriental, fresh and floral. The sense of smell can significantly effect our physical and mental state.

Beyond the borders

A Sofa using assets of Eastern and Western culture

Combined tastes of East and West

The Eastern and Western cultures are very different which makes them distinguishable and unfamiliar to each other. However, these dissimilar assets give out exotic taste for each culture. Therefore, it will be possible to provide the exoticness to both cultures by combining those dissimilar assets into one. Functionalism, artificial and fullness are assets of Western culture, whereas green, natural and emptiness can be assets for Eastern culture. As a result, a sofa came out that has the assets and materials of each culture which provides the main function of sofa while used only natural materials to build the structure.

Humanized objects

Social isolation and humanized objects

I explored a radio, amongst ordinary electronic objects, to redesign especially for the socially alienated people who strive to live in superficial urban environment. As “machines might have their own lives” (Dunne 2005), the personality of radio can be treated as chatty or gossipy if the original purpose of “aboriginal mass medium” (McLuhan 2002) is ignored. The socially isolated population needs the special advanced radio that can hear what they say in order to share their daily lives as a substitute of confident rather than the ordinary radio that talks alone.

Skin By Chanel

Skincare packaging for Chanel

Beauty kit for Chanel which allows you to brand your skin

This product highlights some of the issues driving the current trend in anti-ageing skin care products. Through my research I concluded that the anti-ageing movement is a new form of religion. It helps us deal with the idea of mortality. Many of the beauty products we see today claim to perform “miracles” on our skin using mystical substances. Looking at the various ways we can manipulate and fashion our skin, I also concluded that skin has become a commodity, and possibly something which could be branded, just like clothing. Another driving force behind this anti-ageing trend is the obsession with smoothness, which we can now easily achieve, and has raised our perception of beauty. Smoothness equates perfection.

Tea Bowl

Ceramic Tea Set

Objects forcing users to take conscious decisions over the use of their time

How do you value time? Based on the national average wage in 2008, I came to the conclusion that we value one hour at £3.64 (subject to inflation and interest). Using this figure, we spend (on average) 24p a day brushing our teeth, and £13 a day watching television. I designed a tea set based on different perceptions of time, either we don't have enough, or we seem to have alot. One cup cools your drink very quickly, the other keeps it warm for hours. The saucer forces you to take a conscious decision as to which cup to use, hopefully using your time in the most effective way possible. Are your perceptions of time accurate?

Walking Contradiction

A modern pair of high-heel shoes with exchangeable heels

Whether you're fat or thin, short or tall, beautiful or ugly, you can wear any shoe you like. High heels are capable of making a woman feel sexy, elegant or sporty depending on the way she wants to be perceived.

Focusing on the stereotypical Western woman's wishes and needs, 'Walking Contradiction' is a shoe that represents the female's contradictory nature in the 21st Century.

Thanks to theexchangable heel there is no more need to pay homage to the "no pain, no gain" slogan. Now it is possible for women to feel comfortable and attractive with just one pair of shoes.

Lamp

A lamp that helps you to release anger and calms you down

Anger is a natural emotion, which can lead to depression if not expressed. The aim was to create a product helping people to release it. As women are more likely to swallow their anger, this lamp is designed mostly for them. It acts as a mood light, but when the user feels angry, she can hit it. The lampshade made from memory foam will protect her, but give the satisfaction by its distortion. However, the final process will be encouraging, as the lamp heals itself after a short while and lets the light through, symbolising that 'time heals wounds', and 'there is always a hope'.

A table

A product that embraces the modern way of living.

This product is designed for the average family that does not necessarily have the room or funds for a dining table. By having the compact product compacted the family sits closer together and are therefore more inclined to interact with each other, something that has declined since the introduction of 'television meals'. Furthermore, the table is designed to be used either on the floor or on an existing piece of furniture when the lid is removed. This makes the table adaptable for the situation so that you can eat your meal while watching your favourite television show on Saturday night and then move the table away from the television for your Sunday dinner.

Healthy fast food branded packaging design aimed at children

Addictive Healthy Food for Kids

A Fast Food Packaging Range aimed at children

The idea behind this packaging range came about when I set myself the task to design a product that encourages children to eat healthy food. I discovered that children get addicted to highly processed fast food brands such as McDonald's and Burger King because they provide them with games and toys from popular children's movies. These brands use children's Popular Culture to create brand loyalty with their so-called "cradle to grave" strategy. Then I thought - what if I design a children's packaging range for a healthy fast food brand. Each peace of packaging is some sort of a game and encourages children to play, learn and have fun.

Washingmachine?

This washing-machine has a drum that has two points of contact with the chassis rather than the conventional 6. This is possible because of the use of a vibration suppressor along with the standard shock and spring assembly. The box, which doubles as the chassis, is constructed from solid stainless plate, creating a weighty base for the single pivot point to anchor to. The controls and door are presented to the user from under the counter top, with the rest of the machine recessed to help reduce the visual presence of the “box”. The door differentiates the machine from the rest of the kitchen by appearing to be a projected disk, and by opening up by rotating to the right, apposed to the rest of the cabinets and doors which open out into your space.

Close Encounter

Function follows Form

A series of objects that have been designed without any function but with the purpose to fulfil an unpredicted need. At first they might appear useless, but the fact that they are present in time and space give them the opportunity to be used for something. It is up to the user to perceive/think of a function or not. If used as a seat, then it is a seat; if used as a bowl, then it is a bowl, etc. In order to fulfil my objectives, I had to step away from the design process; I had to dislocate myself from any rational thinking. The RX227 process is a card game combined with 3D software that allows me to create random useless objects. Its aim was not to create highly complex forms, but only forms I would not expect.

Designed to challenge our perceptions about cosmetic surgery and to ask more questions then to provide answers, Harley Street is a board game about cosmetic surgery and is targeted at Tweens. The first one to buy 12 cosmetic surgeries wins the game, but it won't be easy. Have you kept to your diet? Why did you miss your last botox session? Don't land on a mirror! These are just a few of the obstacles that might stop you from reaching perfection. What are your thoughts on this game? Do you want to play or are you appalled?

Nomad

Lounger for the modern nomad

doubles as a trolley

The western consumer culture is a bloated, heavy-weight one. Pursuing materialistic lifestyles can make people ill - too much work, neglecting families and friends. How much stuff do we really need to live a good life? Can you live with only "three bags worth" of personal items? Is the revered principle of ownership giving way to the notion of access? Climate change, economic change, food- and water shortage means people will need to adapt, be agile and mobile. In such a scenario ownership and property will be a liability rather than an asset. Maybe the only things you need is a lounger to sleep in and three bags of personal items?

In my research I found that signs of 'wear and tear' on consumer electronic goods make them lose their 'novelty' and value and this reflects negatively on the owner, implying that he/she lags behind with emerging technology. Therefore I designed a phone that would become more precious and personal to the owner over time.

Subverting the norm

Mass Produced Imperfection

Injection moulded Unique one off's!

People seek to attain a product that gives them a sense of individuality, longevity and a product that complies with their fashion conscious desires. Even in an economic disaster there is still a lust from hungry consumers for new styles. By offering a product that is unpretentious and irregular through the use of mass production techniques (such as injection moulding) the cost of production can be reduced to a more attainable level thus creating an equally 'designed', desirable and aspirational product that is achievable by a much broader market spectrum. But to appreciate this richness we will have to re adjust our value system and our expectations of product aesthetics.

Integration of RFID technology

Benefits for the consumer, manufacturer & retailer

The concept of this method to stop crime is to integrate RFID chips into every non-fast moving high-value consumer product sold. The RFID chip will have a unique number which when purchased is logged on a databaseas purchased. At the entrances to stores or public transportation gates can detect the RFID chip and set the alarm off if the product isn't purchased or is reported stolen.
Benefi ts for the consumer are that these chips contain product information and offer many services directly linked with the brand and opens multiple opportunities for manufacturers, such as self-programmable washing machines, etc.

Spray Safe

A spray system

To deter criminals from shoplifting in small stores.

Shoplifting in small stores is a huge problem, and has grown to such a level that store assistants are fearful of approaching people they believe have shoplifted through fear of being attacked. 'Spray Safe' returns some power back to the store assistants as it is a spray system that 'marks' a perpetrator with 'SmartWater', a new technology that links a person to a specific location. The store assistant just needs to push a button as the perpetrator is leaving and they are sprayed with an invisible spray. The police can then find this person and convict them. Giving passers by the knowledge that such a device is in use on the premises will deter the potential thief and give reassurance to the everyday customer.

Nokia Mobile Phone

A sustainable LEGO mobile phone

It is a sustainable phone because you can keep and use the different parts of the mobile phone that you are happy with. Very often people purchase a new phone because there are one or two things that they like about the new phone. But there is no problem with the rest of their old mobile phone. Many part of their old mobile phone is probably still in good condition. So my product (LEGO shape) will keep the phone sustainable because people can keep the parts they want and not keep the rest. (User can change the shape with LEGO)

Fairy Accents

Roller-ball applicators that deliver health and well-being fragrances

Using aromachology and nanotech to improve health and well-being

Smell is the most underrated and undervalued of our senses. As designers, we spend time and money trying to make products feel, look or taste better, yet how it smells is usually neglected. Of our 5 senses, smell is also the most emotional, it catapults our mind instantly to a specific time and place in our lives. This project aims to use smell to impact health and well-being through aromachology (the science of affecting psychology through scent stimulus). Fairy Accents (Relax, Focus, Sensual, Sleep or Happiness) are applied to clothing and over the course of the day different layers of scent are released to enhance the prescribed mood.

Fairy moisturizer

Moisturizer for mother and child

Enhance the unique emotional connection between mother

Mothers spend a lot of time taking care of their children and the household. Mostly the child's care requires a lot of hands washing, e.g. when preparing food, after nappy changing, before and after meal times. Even when having fun and spending time on the playground some parents say they experienced sore knees and elbows. Often mothers complain that their skin is very dry and sore. It seems that by taking care of the child often mothers forget to take care of themselves. The moisturizer for mother and child is a new addition to the Fairy family.

Fairy ‘2XCARE’

A refillable, double concentrated washing-up liquid system specifically designed to appeal to men.

As 98% of British men use washing-up liquid system specifically designed to appeal to men.

Most household cleaning products are designed for and aimed at women, but since the social barriers have been broken down, woman and men now tend to share the household cleaning chores. The existing cleaning product manufacturers are not capitalising enough on this opportunity to market their home cleaning products to men. My product is meant to fill this gap in the market and to also promote reuse an an attitude of 'less is more'.

Packaging designed to appeal to kids.

The brief was to take the emotional attachment Fairy has with its consumers and incorporate it into a new product line that would fit into a different market sector but still appeal to its existing consumers. The brand’s strong identity with family and its gentle and sensitive values make a logical transition into a childrens bath care range. Fairykids is a set of bath products which are designed for children aged 4-8 based on observations of how this age group aspire to make their own choices when visiting the supermarket with their parents.

Luxury Fairy

Affordable Luxury

No more dry cleaning bills

Lace, Silk, Cotton, and Cashmere are all those fabrics that make up our most cherished possessions. We love them for how soft and gentle they feel on our skin but it can be quite hard to keep them looking as stunning as when we first bought them (without breaking the bank at the drycleaners). That's when Fairy comes in to lend a helping hand: the new Luxury Fairy condensed laundry detergent is especially made for those fabrics that need extra attention and delicate ingredients.

A Million Shards of Light

Cracked Mirror Light

A mirror that cracks into a million shards of light, with the ability to self heal

Schott are world renowned glass manufactures and required a “vehicle” within product design that would catapult their glass into a wider consumer market, in order to show their innovative and technological expertise. My aim was to concentrate solely on the glass itself and using Mirona, a glass that can change from mirrored to clear by adding light, I created a surface of illusion light. When off the object is mirrored, however when on cracks appear and light pours through. This effect intensifies the glasses ability and promotes it aesthetic beauty. Glass doesn’t always have to fit a window.

Glass display box

A glass box that unfolds to reveal the exciting properties

Glass origami makes for a multi-faceted display piece that is easily transportable.

The display is assembled as a glass box. Each side is constructed of glass from the Schott range linked together in such a way that lifting one facet causes the box to open up much like a flower opening its petals. This is the box configuration used for display purposes. Ambient light striking the multi-angled faces reveals the exciting colours of the glass and its unique transmissive and reflective properties. The display box shown uses dichroic glass from the Narima range however the modular construction means that different combinations of Schott glass can be used to achieve a range of effects. The box can be disassembled into a flatpack format. This is very robust and makes for safe and convenient transportation.

Space Divider

A mobile glass space divider inspired by the movement

The shapes involved have been designed to showcase the dynamic movement of the 'living dichotic glass' Narima. As this divider is pulled open, its shape, colour and reflections transform. Simple shapes create a big effect, utilising the reflections of the glass. Their use was inspired by the way light reflects irregularly off trapezoidal shapes. Narimas properties are dependent on its environment and angle of view. This divider allows users to interact with this material in a unique and exciting way by exploring its multiple dimensions - it is a flamboyant centre piece which adapts and changes as the user walks around it.
